この度、WHITEHOUSEではグループ展「Z/I/N/E」を開催いたします。

Z/I/N/Eは、アーティストとzineの関係を探るグループ展です。多くのアーティストは展示作品だけでなく、そこに至る思考の過程や作品にならなかったものたちの断片を多く抱えているはずです。それを記録的にスクラップしたり、思考のエクササイズのような使い方でzineを作る試みがあってもいいのではないでしょうか。また、zineの編集という作業を通して制作行為自体を新たに捉え直したり、この展示がzineというメディアを再発明するきっかけとなるかもしれません。

今回、私たちアーティスト二人（安原杏子 a.k.a 青椒肉絲とChiemi Shimada）がそれぞれzineを作りながら、「この人のzineを見てみたい！」と考えた日本、イギリスを拠点とするアーティストたちに声をかけ、この展示を開催する運びとなりました。Zineの展示・販売、映像、音、パフォーマンスなどを通して、アーティストとzineの密接な関係について考える機会を作ることができればと思います。映像・音・パフォーマンスは、本邦初公開となる作品も多くあります。

また、軽食や紅茶、8birdscoffee（@8birdscoffee）による、今回の展示のためのオリジナルブレンドコーヒーもあります。購入したzineを読んだり、映像を観ながらゆっくり過ごせる空間になる予定です！

We are excited to announce our next exhibition, ‘Z/I/N/E’ at WHITEHOUSE, Shinjuku from 29th November to 3rd December, 2023.

Z/I/N/E is a group exhibition exploring the relationship between artists and zines. Many artists are likely to have not only exhibited works but also fragments of the thought process that led them to that point and of things that did not turn into works. The creation of zines might involve collecting them as a record or doing a thinking exercise. Or, through the process of editing a zine, artists may be able to reflect on the act of creation itself, and it may be an opportunity to reinvent the medium of the zine itself.

We (Kyoko Yasuhara, a.k.a. Chinjao Rosu and Chiemi Shimada), reached out to artists based in Japan and the UK, saying, ‘We want to see your zine!’ while we also make our own. Through the zine exhibition, films, sounds, and performances, we hope to create opportunities to think about the close relationship between artists and zines. Many films, sounds and performances in the programmes have never been exhibited/performed in Japan.

Light snacks, tea and an original blended coffee made specifically for this exhibition by 8birdscoffee (@8birdscoffee) can be purchased at the venue. We hope to create a space where people can relax while they read purchased zines or watch films!
